Situation
As Chain Reaction Systems expanded, it needed its infrastructure to keep pace. The company ran databases on dedicated hardware and application workloads in virtualized environments. This hybrid environment delivered strong performance, but at the cost of added operational complexity.
Updating infrastructure, managing hardware lifecycle changes, and applying software upgrades required planned downtime, which disrupted customer operations. These maintenance windows occurred multiple times per year, creating friction for customers running 24x7x365 environments.
At the same time, Chain Reaction Systems needed to control performance and costs tightly. As a SaaS provider supporting mission-critical applications, it could not compromise on reliability, but scaling with additional physical infrastructure increased cost and limited flexibility.
This tension also made it harder to scale efficiently. Provisioning new infrastructure in a traditional model slowed the company’s ability to respond quickly to customer demands and internal development needs.

Chain Reaction Systems worked with Rackspace Technology® to modernize its infrastructure by adopting Rackspace Private Cloud Solutions powered by Broadcom’s VMware Cloud Foundation and connecting its environments through RackConnect® Global. The solution allowed Chain Reaction Systems to evolve its existing environment into a more flexible private cloud architecture, combining dedicated infrastructure with controlled virtualization. By using its own hypervisors within Rackspace's dedicated private cloud, the company achieved greater control over workloads while maintaining high performance for critical systems such as databases.
With Rackspace's multitenant private cloud, the company could provision and scale application environments more easily. This flexibility allowed the team to respond to changing business needs without adding new physical infrastructure.
RackConnect Global connected environments across regions, allowing Chain Reaction Systems to integrate dedicated and virtualized resources into a single operating environment. This simplified infrastructure management and enabled the company to treat systems across locations as a single, cohesive platform.
Rackspace also supported the transition with Rackspace Elastic Engineering, providing guidance during the migration and helping the team work through early implementation challenges as one of the platform’s early adopters.
