Auto & General is a group of companies providing insurance solutions providers across four continents. Launched in 2015, it now generates more than $2 billion in annual revenue with its primary focus on digital business.
Budget Direct Insurance was launched in 2016. It serves the Singapore market with car, motorcycle and travel insurance. Budget Direct Insurance keeps prices low by using various strategies, including the elimination of brokers.
In 2017, EasyCompare was launched in Thailand, where car owners can compare motor policies from 13 different brands on an easy-to-use website.
Headquartered in the British Isles, Auto & General has eighteen international brands including BeagleStreet.com, CompareTheMarket.com.au and dial direct.

The obstacles they faced
Auto & General needed a cost-effective solution and a collaborative managed services partner that would implement robust security measures to maintain PCI compliance.
Security was of paramount importance as Auto & General wanted a cloud platform and managed service provider that could easily deploy the latest security features to combat ever evolving cyberthreats. It needed to move to a security solution seamlessly, without impacting service delivery and allowing operations to continue as normal.
Another major driver for Auto & General was improving website performance by reducing load times. It recognized that search engines like Google rank websites with quick load times favorably.
With 52% of site traffic coming from mobile, it also needed to ensure that site performance was optimized on devices. In Thailand, 68% of the site traffic comes from mobile.

How we helped
By working with Rackspace Managed Services on Cloudflare, Auto & General deployed an Edge Security solution. This solution includes a web application firewall (WAF), DDoS protection, domain name system (DNS) services and a global content delivery network (CDN).
Auto & General improved web and mobile site delivery and reliability. Latency was reduced, and website performance was optimized with CDN and DNS services that allowed dynamic content acceleration, static content caching and image optimization.
The Edge Security solution protects Auto & General’s web applications against security threats including bots, DDoS and attackers. Real-time analysis is enabled through high-level access to dashboards, while the solution also allows for logging and reporting. Malicious traffic is blocked before it reaches the web application, resulting in lower web server utilization costs and reduced bandwidth consumption.

Auto & General now has access to 24x7x365 support from certified cloud security experts who help with fine-tuning and changes to its infrastructure. Rackspace Technology® helps to ensure the ever-growing online presence of Auto & General is secured and optimized.
The overall speed of the website was optimized through automation. For example, code minification reduced the amount of code and markup on web pages and script files. This, in turn, reduced load times and bandwidth usage, and improved the overall end-user experience.
Rackspace Managed Services on Cloudflare proved to be a cost-effective solution for Auto & General in comparison to its last provider. The digital estate meets industry regulations, compliance standards set by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and other government bodies. In the future, Auto & General plans to introduce online payments for the EasyCompare site and is considering a move to different cloud provider.
