eTurns’ TrackStock helps distributors and their customers automate inventory replenishment at the point-of-use in stockrooms and on service trucks using phones, scanners, IoT sensors and RFID. The cloud software gives companies real-time visibility into inventory, helps them automate re-ordering, and optimizes inventories while maximizing service levels.

The obstacles they faced
Prior to its AWS migration, eTurns was using a hosted environment at Century Link that supported a web server and SQL server database environment. The environment lacked redundancy and resilience and was not highly available. eTurns engaged Rackspace Technology to manage its migration to AWS and to architect an environment based on AWS best practices.

How we helped
The AWS solutions architects at Rackspace Technology kicked off the eTurns cloud migration project with a discovery session to take a full inventory of the eTurns estate before designing, architecting, deploying and testing the new AWS infrastructure. To achieve both a highly available web tier as well as a highly available database tier, Rackspace Technology leveraged the following AWS solutions:
- Amazon VPC and VPN: The VPN provided easy access to the VPC.
- Amazon EC2: Rackspace Technology deployed the eTurns website on EC2 web servers and auto-scaled and load-balanced the servers to provide a highly available web tier and to provide eTurns with the ability to scale. It also architected a highly available SQL server built on Amazon EC2, an environment that was mirrored over multiple Amazon Availability Zones. On EC2, Rackspace Technology established both a point-in-time backup process as well as a failover process following AWS best practices.
- Amazon domain controllers: Rackspace Technology established a highly available domain controller over multiple availability zones.
- DataDog: Rackspace Technology provided eTurns with a DataDog account to monitor its new AWS environment. eTurns gained the ability to leverage its data and transform it into actionable insight.

eTurns achieved its primary goal of migrating to a modern cloud platform. It also gained exceptional value its ongoing relationship with Rackspace Technology, which provides the company with post-migration support.
