Certified Expertise for Every Step of Your Multi-Cloud Journey

Our History

What began in 1998 as the idea of three Trinity University classmates has now become a global company with business customers in over 120 countries. While our headquarters remain in San Antonio, we employ more than 6,000 Rackers on four continents, most of them expert engineers who spend their days innovating and supporting the foundation of our business—you.

We now host a majority of the global enterprises in the Fortune 100 and more than 60% of the companies that advertise during the Super Bowl. Many of the apps and websites you use every day run on our managed cloud. We deliver winning outcomes for you and your business.

After a decade as a public company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Rackspace became a private company in November 2016, under the ownership of investors led by funds affiliated with Apollo Global Management.

The Rackspace Foundation forms, with the mission to invest in our communities.

We create Fanatiguy, the iconic representation of Rackers supporting our customers.

Mosso launches Cloud Files and (in collaboration with Slicehost) Cloud Servers. These products are rebranded as The Rackspace Cloud.

We founded OpenStack®, the open-source cloud platform, with NASA.

We launch our next-generation public cloud platform on OpenStack. This allows our customers to enjoy Fanatical Support while building apps and sites on a cloud that's based on open standards.
