YETI Online Sales Increase More Than 750x with Rackspace Digital

SAN ANTONIO – June 23, 2015 - Rackspace® (NYSE: RAX), the #1 managed cloud company, today announced that YETI, the premium cooler and drinkware retailer, is leveraging Rackspace Managed Cloud to power its fast-growing ecommerce site. With the flexibility of a hybrid Magento environment and Rackspace Digital expertise, YETI maintains a responsive website and scales for traffic spikes without compromising performance.

YETI began working with the Rackspace Digital team in 2012 when the company embarked on a full redesign of its ecommerce platform. Tailored for ecommerce and retail workloads, Rackspace Digital practice area experts deliver solutions that are optimized for fast load times, enhanced security and PCI compliance requirements with a 100 percent uptime guarantee and a wide range of available security solutions. According to YETI, since switching to Rackspace with support for Magento in 2012, YETI’s online sales have increased more than 750 percent.

“In 2012, YETI faced a significant challenge,” said Sara Kenton, director of digital at YETI. “We wanted to completely reinvent our brand and ecommerce experience by adopting a Magento platform, but had no internal resources to execute the redesign. Rackspace was the best fit for our business because of their Magento expertise and commitment to exceptional customer service. Without an internal IT team, we rely heavily on our Rackspace support team. Working with them is like having a dedicated IT team on-site.”

YETI is seeing rapid growth of its mobile presence due to an active customer base that increasingly relies on smart phones to make purchases on the go. Mobile traffic accounts for 66 percent of YETI’s total online traffic, which is a 200 percent increase from 2012. To keep up with online sales growth, YETI leverages fully managed support from Rackspace Digital practice area experts to power a responsive, hybrid Magento site.

Responsive web design optimizes and streamlines displays across multiple devices including desktop and mobile. A responsive site allows YETI to maintain efficiency across all online channels with a lean internal IT team, adapting quickly for product launches and marketing campaigns. A Rackspace hybrid cloud environment allows the company to withstand traffic spikes associated with holidays like Father’s Day and Black Friday as well as features on the home page of Google.

“Architecting and maintaining an ecommerce platform for a retail brand that is growing as quickly as YETI is a very complex process,” said Kyle Metcalf, senior director of the Rackspace Digital practice area. “Often, retailers have to sacrifice performance for design, or stability for load times. With custom solutions architected by Rackspace experts and 24x7x365 Fanatical Support, YETI is able to run a responsive site without sacrificing performance. As more consumers turn to the Web for their purchases, retailers will be hard-pressed to work with digital experts who can help design and support these complex solutions.”

Rackspace hosts more Magento sites than any other hosting provider and has been the #1 hosting provider for the Internet Retailer Top 1,000 for four consecutive years.

YETI coolers will discuss how it solves for rapid ecommerce growth with Magento and a Rackspace team of digital experts at the Rackspace::Solve Dallas event on June 25, 2015. To register for Rackspace::Solve Dallas, visit
