EastWest Sounds (soundsonline.com) is the world's leading developer of virtual music instruments, serving top professionals in music, film, television, games, multimedia and performing arts. Virtual instruments allow composers to create music that sounds live at a lower cost. A high percentage of music produced today is created on computers using EASTWEST/QUANTUM LEAP Virtual Instruments. In 2015, EastWest Sounds launched ComposerCloud, the industry's first subscription service, making over 9000 virtual instruments affordable for anyone interested in exploring their musical creativity. EastWest owns a large recording studio complex in Hollywood (eastweststudios.com) and has sound and software development divisions in Hollywood and Berlin, Germany.

The obstacles they faced
EastWest spent two years developing ComposerCloud, a subscription service offering access to its extensive collection of virtual instruments. The service aimed to make its products, which would collectively cost an individual well over $12,000, into a subscription service that’s affordable for musicians everywhere.
However, it faced the daunting challenge of making massive amounts of data reliably available to customers efficiently.
EastWest migrated more than 575 million files (130TB) using Amazon CloudFront.
How we helped
EastWest partnered with Rackspace Technology® to deliver the service to all subscribers, making available the nearly 1 TB of data that these customers could potentially download.
To distribute its content globally, EastWest implemented Amazon CloudFront, a content delivery network (CDN) service that accelerates the delivery of websites, APIs, video content and other web assets. The move to a cloud-based model was crucial for cost savings, long-term scalability and growth. Rackspace Technology also assisted EastWest in building a new application around AWS best practices to replace its primary website JibJab.com.

By utilizing AWS's opex, utility-based pricing model, ComposerCloud was able to scale its organization without significant upfront capital expenditures. The subscription-based model allowed it to grow its user base while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Amazon CloudFront provided a simple solution for efficient content distribution to users worldwide, ensuring a seamless experience for their customers.
The successful migration and implementation of AWS services, facilitated by Rackspace Technology, enabled EastWest to achieve goals of cost savings, scalability and growth.
