What is HPC?

High-performance computing (HPC) enables users to solve complex, computationally demanding business, engineering and scientific problems through computer modeling, simulation and analysis. The applications used in HPC require high bandwidth, enhanced networking and robust compute capabilities.

How does HPC Work?

An HPC system can be a single supercomputer or a distributed cluster of GPU-intensive servers in a cloud platform. The terms “HPC” and “supercomputing” are frequently used interchangeably, but the two differ significantly in performance levels. A supercomputer is computationally much faster than an HPC system.

Our Managed Cloud team also supports Amazon Web Services (AWS)® and Azure®, so your company can tap into the power of these HPC systems without having to cope with their complexity. With AWS’s Elastic Cloud Compute platform, you can instantly create your own HPC cluster with a pay-as-you-go pricing model. With Microsoft Azure’s Big Compute platform, you can extend your own HPC cluster to the cloud for additional capacity or use HPC Pack to deploy a cluster on Azure and connect to it via a secure VPN or the internet.
