Rackspace Technology Receives ERS Gold Award for Supporting Those Who Serve

How practical support for the Armed Forces community reflects the culture we build together.

Rackspace Technology UK has received the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award, the highest level of recognition under the scheme. The award recognises employers that actively support members of the Armed Forces community, including serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families.

For Rackspace, the recognition reflects a commitment that goes beyond a badge. It is part of a culture grounded in compassion, inclusion and belonging, where people can bring their whole selves to work and receive meaningful support when circumstances change.

Rackspace Technology is a proud signatory to the UK Armed Forces Covenant, a promise by the British nation to ensure that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly. Rackspace Technology received the Silver ERS Award in 2025 and has now earned Gold, the highest level of recognition under the Ministry of Defence scheme.

A perspective shaped by military family life

Victoria Driscoll, Senior Director, Strategic Accounts, Rackspace Technology, has led and managed the ERS programme. Victoria’s husband served for 22 years in the Royal Navy, and she spent 15 years navigating life as a naval spouse. That experience helped shape a view of Armed Forces support that includes the whole family, not only the person serving.

When a partner is deployed at short notice, communication can stop and the spouse at home may suddenly need to manage family care, domestic administration and career responsibilities independently. Those circumstances do not always fit neatly into standard workplace processes.

“When your partner is deployed at short notice, communication goes to zero and you suddenly have to manage everything independently,” explains Victoria. “In those moments, rigid corporate policies fall apart. Real support means creating an adaptable workplace where a military spouse knows they can talk to HR, relocate remotely if posted elsewhere or adjust their hours without fear of losing their career.”

Making support practical

Rather than relying on blanket rules, Rackspace looks at individual circumstances and works with employees to find practical, tailored support. That can include:

• Flexible working and remote adaptation: Where circumstances allow, spouses can explore changes to working patterns or remote arrangements when a partner is relocated across the UK or overseas.
• Reservist support: Rackspace provides paid leave for reservist training and mobilisation and recognises the value of volunteering, including activities such as the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
• Individual support mechanisms: Workload, timing and personal circumstances can be considered together, giving employees and managers a more constructive way to respond to changing needs.

This support is connected to a wider culture of care. The RackVET Racker Resource Group supports military veterans, reservists and family members across the company. It helps Rackers share experiences, build connections and contribute to the wider Armed Forces community.

The value of an Armed Forces-friendly workplace

Supporting veterans, reservists and military families benefits people first. It also helps Rackspace build a workplace that values experience, discipline, teamwork, resilience and different perspectives. Service leavers and veterans bring skills developed through service, while reservists and military families contribute adaptability and a clear understanding of what it means to support people through demanding circumstances.
