Rackspace Fanatics Score 4th on UK’s Great Place to Work List
London, UK – June 14, 2013 – Rackspace® Hosting (NYSE: RAX), the open cloud company, today announced it has been ranked fourth in the ‘Large’ company category of the 2013 Great Place to Work Awards, announced at the Pavilion in The Tower of London. This recognition acknowledges Rackspace’s ongoing investment to create a winning workplace. It is the ninth successive time the company has been named a Great Place to Work in the UK.
"Being a Racker is not just about the ‘day job', it is about walking through the door every day as if it were a second home and being surrounded by people you truly enjoy”, said SMB Racker Annette Chadbourne. "From the decoration of our meeting rooms to the bell we ring when we make a sale, high energy runs through the entire organisation. We have some great personalities who keep the energy levels up and make Rackspace such a great place to work."
A fun working environment is as an essential ingredient at Rackspace. Since one of the core values is to treat Rackers like ‘Friends & Family’, it’s no surprise to see its London HQ decked out in the theme of a Home – from the garage on the ground floor (complete with a retro Mini Cooper) through to the 1960s-inspired lounge. There’s even a regal library and a ‘rooftop’ garden with deck swings and Astroturf – it certainly feels like a home away from home. Rackspace has even thrown in a game room complete with a pool table and Wii!
“Our vision is to be a truly outstanding service organisation, continually striving to serve customers with our renowned Fanatical Support®,” said Taylor Rhodes, Senior Vice President of Rackspace International. “To achieve this level of service excellence, we focus squarely on our people – our Rackers – in order to foster a culture that champions them, empowers them and centres on job satisfaction. I’m very proud to have the value of these efforts affirmed by the Great Places to Work ranking, and to be placed amongst so many illustrious, successful organisations like Ikea and Mercedes Benz.”
The UK’s Best Workplaces Awards is run by the Great Place to Work® Institute, a global research and management consultancy that helps organisations identify, create and sustain great workplaces through the development of high-trust workplace cultures. More than 6,000 organisations and 10 million employees are currently involved in the global Best Workplaces Programme, making it the largest of its kind. The Great Place to Work® Institute conducts programmes in 45 countries around the world.
Rackspace serves some of the biggest consumer and business brands globally, providing cloud computing services to companies such as Domino’s, Vodafone and Transport for London among many others. Keeping service levels to a maximum under Rackspace’s Fanatical Support promise, while nurturing a Racker empowerment culture that motivates employees and makes them enjoy getting up for work in the morning is no mean feat, especially in today’s challenging world economic climate.
This year, 75 organisations in the UK have been recognised for being great places to work – large, medium or small. These organisations have met the Great Place to Work Institutes’ three requirements for a great workplace: Employees trust their management; employees take pride in what they do; employees enjoy working with their colleagues.
“I am once again delighted to congratulate all our Best Workplaces on their achievement, and thank their leaders for continuing to champion the importance of trust in the workplace,” said Tom O’Byrne, Chief Executive of Great Place to Work. O’Byrne adds, “In the current economic climate, it has never been more crucial for organisations to recognise the importance of creating and maintaining great workplace cultures and understanding how this can improve performance. The jury is no longer out – employee engagement works and to be engaged you need trust!”
