Fanatical Support for AWS at Rackspace Helps Address PCI and HIPAA Compliance

SAN ANTONIO – August 3, 2016 – Rackspace (NYSE: RAX) today announced Fanatical Support® for Amazon Web Services (AWS) is available for customers with Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) workloads on AWS.

Compliance in the cloud, along with implementation of the requisite technology and processes to secure and protect sensitive customer data, presents an ongoing requirement for financial services, ecommerce, and healthcare businesses that have transformed workloads to the cloud or are considering making the shift. These businesses require service provider partners who are able to host and manage data sensitive workloads. AWS provides a portfolio of PCI and HIPAA compliant infrastructure services, and Fanatical Support for AWS is now able to layer managed service on top of AWS infrastructure hosting PCI and HIPAA workloads. AWS and Fanatical Support for AWS form a powerful foundation that Rackspace customers can leverage in pursuit of their cloud compliance goals.

The growing number of security attacks targeting credit and debit card information on merchants and their service providers necessitates PCI compliant solutions which securely store, process, and transmit cardholder data. Rackspace now offers customers PCI-compliant operational tooling and managed services on top of AWS’s PCI compliant infrastructure and services portfolio, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Redshift, Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), and Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC).

Similarly, it’s essential for businesses operating within the healthcare industry to ensure the security and privacy of patients’ electronic medical records and Protected Health Information (PHI) such as lab results, clinical care data, insurance, and billing information. Rackspace provides support across the range of AWS’s HIPAA compliant services, including Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon RDS (Oracle and MySQL), and Amazon Elastic MapReduce (Amazon EMR). These services provide customers that interact with confidential patient information options for routine operations like performing backups, encrypting data in-transit and at rest, as well as advanced capabilities like multi-cluster data analysis.

“We’ve seen increased demand from customers wanting Rackspace to manage their PCI and HIPAA compliant workloads on AWS,” said Chris Cochran, senior vice president and general manager of AWS at Rackspace. “The expertise, operational tooling, and managed support that Rackspace provides is a tremendous value for customers that must meet these requirements.”
