Aeroméxico Thrives with Rackspace and Red Hat
Conferences are valuable because they offer face time with customers, partners and industry colleagues, allowing us to share and learn a great deal in a short amount of time. We’re looking forward to Red Hat Summit 2019 for that very reason.
This year, we’re featuring the story of Aeroméxico, which in three short years has gone from losing out to the competition with subpar online sales to becoming a standard-bearer for the modern, omnichannel customer experience.
We share Aeroméxico’s story because it could be your organization’s story. Almost every company today is seeking some form of digital transformation. They simply must — customers are demanding a seamless experience and the competition is fierce. Born-in-the-cloud companies are disrupting traditional models at a breathtaking pace; no one can afford to be left behind.
Legacy IT hindering growth
This was the reality facing Aeroméxico. Legacy IT systems hindered online sales, while fierce competition from budget airlines were eating into the bottom line. The airline knew it needed to differentiate its service with a world-class online experience — and that meant a radical overhaul to its entire application ecosystem, all while maintaining security and uptime. And because these systems were so crucial — ecommerce represented a critical revenue stream, while flight path and crew systems had to ensure the safe operation of the airplanes at all times — it also needed a partner it could trust to guide it through this massive undertaking.
Aeroméxico teamed up with Rackspace to help architect and manage the diverse range of infrastructure that supports these systems, including an OpenStack-based Red Hat private cloud environment that supports its ecommerce and kiosks, a VMware-based private cloud that handles a number of mission-critical backend applications, and Rackspace Managed Security solutions to handle scanning, vulnerability testing and penetration.

The results of true digital transformation
Aeroméxico has tripled online sales, doubled its performance across all user interfaces, seen a 40 percent jump in mobile penetration and increased its security and fraud check to a 90 percent acceptance rate on credit cards across all platforms. In short, Aeromexico has become a standard-bearer for the modern, omnichannel customer experience.
Equally important is the impact this transformation has had on Aeroméxico’s brand reputation — proving to customers that while Aeroméxico has a long and storied history, it’s also now one of the most modern, forward thinking airlines in the world.
