Matt Bates is interim chief financial officer for Rackspace, responsible for the company's financial planning and reporting. Matt also gives strategic and financial advice to the CEO and to the board.
Since Rackspace went private in November 2016, Matt has led our efforts to shift resources to the lines of business that are growing most rapidly. His team's work has resulted in record levels of cash flow.
Matt grew up in the Seattle area and earned a B.A. from Brigham Young University, and an MBA from the University of Texas. Upon graduation, he worked for the investment bank Alex Brown on the Rackspace account, after which our founders lured him away.
Over his 15 years at Rackspace, Matt has worked not only in finance but also in other key areas including support, operational excellence, and corporate development. He helped instill the discipline that has kept Rackspace growing profitably. He helped launch our successful 2008 IPO, as well as our recent transaction to go private.
Matt and his wife have six children, whom they raise along with chickens and fruit trees on a small farm near San Antonio.
