Posted by David Roldan. As part of my Fanatical Manager Certification, I took several courses over the past few months through Rackspace University. This Program was designed to help me be more in tune with what Rackspace is all about and how I can make a greater impact to the Rack.
The “Great Managers” training course was my favorite. This class focused on better understanding our own unique talents, how to utilize those strengths, and how to manage our weaknesses. Important stuff!
Growing up, we’ve always been taught to spend more time focusing on our weaknesses. I never thought twice about this mantra. How could I have been so naive??? Exercises within the class discussed the fundamental paradigm shift we need to have in how we manage our strengths. This is a movement worth gravitating to and something we take seriously at Rackspace.
The sooner we understand areas we excel in, the better positioned we are to understand how those actions can create meaningful results. Furthermore, by understanding my peers’ strengths I can better relate to how they learn, take action, and carry out their day-to-day duties.
Undoubtedly I will become a better team member, leader, and friend by having taken this class. This was a fruitful experience that I hope all get to go through.
