Webmail Chat FAQs


How can I enable/disable Rackspace Webmail Chat on my private label site?

You can prevent the chat link from displaying in your private label Webmail Site in your Rackspace Email Control Panel.

For direct customers:

  1. Log in to https://cp.rackspace.com.
  2. Click Rackspace Email.
  3. Click Webmail Sites.
  4. Click Show/Hide Links.
  5. Select Show Webmail Chat or Hide Webmail Chat.
  6. Click Save.

 For resellers:

  1. Log in to https://cp.rackspace.com.
  2. Click Reseller Tools.
  3. Click Webmail Sites.
  4. Select a Webmail site and click Customize.
  5. Click on Show/Hide Links.
  6. Select Show Webmail Chat or Hide Webmail Chat.
  7. Click on Save.

 

How can I enable/disable Webmail Chat for users for an email domain?

You can prevent the chat link from displaying in Webmail for users of specific email domains in your Rackspace Email Control Panel.

  1. Log in to https://cp.rackspace.com.
  2. Click Rackspace Email.
  3. Under Email Accounts, click Settings.
  4. Select a domain.
  5. Click Webmail Settings.
  6. Under Admin-only Settings, set Chat to Enabled or Disabled.
  7. Click Save.

 

What browsers are supported for Rackspace Webmail Chat?

The latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari are all supported for Rackspace Webmail Chat. We have no plans to support earlier versions of Internet Exlplorer.

 

How long are chat logs retained?

We don’t store any chat logs on our system, but users are able to see any messages sent/received during their current webmail session. Our product team plans to add message archiving in the future. Please submit your feedback.

 

Is it possible to do group/team chat?

Currently it is not possible to do group/team chat. Our product team plans to add group/team chat in the future. Please submit your feedback.

 

Can I chat with Lync users?

Currently it is not possible to chat with Lync users. Our product team is researching this capability for potential future enhancement. Please submit your feedback.

 

Can I use Rackspace Webmail chat with third party im clients?

Currently it is not possible to use third party im clients while we test compatibility to ensure quality and supportability. Our product team plans to allow access via third party clients in the future. Please submit your feedback.

 

How do I enable/disable HTML5 notifications after the initial permissions request?

In Chrome:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the page.
  2. Click View Page Info.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Change the Notifications setting to Always allow on this site.
  5. Refresh the page.

 

In Firefox:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the page.
  2. Click View Page Info.
  3. Click the Permissions tab.
  4. Change the Notifications setting to Allow.
  5. Refresh the page.

 

Does Webmail Chat require a certain port on the firewall to be open?

Yes. Webmail Chat uses port 5291. This port must be open on your network in order for Webmail Chat to function properly.
