Seting Up IMAP Or POP - Opera


NOTE: This documentation refers to a feature that is no longer available for Cloud Sites.  This article is here for the purpose of legacy support only.

 

If you would like to learn more about the differences between Post Office Protocol (POP) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), see the help topic, POP vs. IMAP.

For increased security, we recommend that you use our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) servers as detailed below.

NOTE: If your internal system configurations require non-SSL ports, see the Email Server Settings page for our full list of available servers and ports.

To set up Opera for IMAP, do the following:

1.    Click Tools > Mail and Chat Accounts.

2.    The first time you choose this option, you’ll see a setup wizard that will guide you through the steps of creating your email account. Click Yes.

3.    Select E-mail, and click Next.

4.    Enter the following:  

·       Real name—Enter your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.

·       E-mail address—Enter your entire email address (for example, myname@mydomain.com).

·       Organization—Enter your company’s name, or leave it blank for a personal account.

5.    Click Next.

6.    Enter the following:  

·       Login name—Enter your entire email address (for example, myname@mydomain.com).

·       Password—Enter the password for your email account.

·       Select an e-mail account type—Click the IMAP button.

7.    Click Next.

8.    Enter the following:
 

·       Incoming server—Enter the secure server name:
 
secure.emailsrvr.com

·       Outgoing server—Enter the secure server name:
 
secure.emailsrvr.com

9.    Select the Use secure connection (TLS) check boxes.

10. Click Finish.

11. Click Tools > Mail and Chat Accounts.

12. Click your account as it appears in the Accounts list.

13. Click Edit.

14. Click the Servers tab.

15. In the Incoming IMAP server section, enter the secure Port number: 993

16. In the Outgoing SMTP server section, enter the secure Port number: 465

17. Click OK.

18. Click Close.

To set up Opera for POP, do the following:

1.    Click Tools > Mail and Chat Accounts.

2.    The first time you choose this option, you’ll see a setup wizard that will guide you through the steps of creating your email account. Click Yes.

3.    Select E-mail, and click Next.

4.    Enter the following:  

·       Real name—Enter your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.

·       E-mail address—Enter your entire email address (for example, myname@mydomain.com).

·       Organization—Enter your company’s name, or leave it blank for a personal account.

5.    Click Next.

6.    Enter the following:  

·       Login name—Enter your entire email address (for example, myname@mydomain.com).

·       Password—Enter the password for your email account.

·       Select an e-mail account type—Ensure that Regular e-mail (POP) is selected.

7.    Click Next.

8.    Enter the following:

·       Incoming server—Enter the secure server name:

secure.emailsrvr.com

·       Outgoing server—Enter the secure server name:

secure.emailsrvr.com

9.    Select the Use secure connection (TLS) check boxes.

10. To leave a copy of messages on the server, select the Leave messages on server check box. This will allow you to access your messages through webmail or an application on a different computer or mobile device. To help ensure that you do not exceed the storage limits of your mailbox, select the Until I permanently delete them check box.

11. Click Finish.

12. Click Tools > Mail and Chat Accounts.

13. Click your account as it appears in the Accounts list.

14. Click Edit.

15. Click the Servers tab.

16. In the Incoming POP server section, enter the secure Port number: 995

17. In the Outgoing SMTP server section, enter the secure Port number: 465

19. Click Close.
