MSSQL Management Studio for SQL 2012 Error
There is a known error that occurs in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio that you may be experiencing when connecting to an MSSQL 2012 database externally.
In MSSQL Server Management Studio, when right-clicking on an MSSQL 2012 database and selecting 'Properties' - you will see the following error stating that "the user does not have permission to perform this action":
This error results from a design change to SQL Server 2012, and Microsoft has released a hotfix to correct the problem as well as several others.

- This article on the Microsoft Support site lists a number of errors that the package is meant to fix, and the "Cannot show requested dialog." error above is designated as bug number 949533, with a detailed article diagnosing the symptoms of this particular error located here.
- You will need to install the Cumulative Update Package 2 for SQL Server 2012 by clicking the link next to the picture of the adjustable wrench and screwdriver.
- Microsoft recommends that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. This update package is intended to correct only the problems that are described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing these specific problems.
