Setting Up Your iPhone, iPad, & iPod With Microsoft Exchange 2010 E-Mail

The following article below will get your Microsoft Exchange 2010 mailbox setup on your iPhone:

Note: Your device must be a 3G, 3Gs, and with a 4.0+ iOS

Note: Before we get started, please be sure your administartor has purchased you an Activesync license and assigned to your email address.

1. Tap the Settings icon on the iPhone

2. Next, tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Add Account then Microsoft Exchange.

3. Tap Add Account then Microsoft Exchange.

4. The Exchange setup screen will open; you'll then enter the following information:

  • Email - Enter your entire email address (e.g., myname@mydomain.com), using all lowercase letters.
  • Domain - leave this field empty.
  • Username - Enter in your entire email address.
  • Password - Enter in the password for your email account.
  • Description - Enter a descriptive name for your account (e.g., My Work Account). This description will only be visible to you.

5. Tap the Next button and the device will attempt to verify the account. You may receive an "Unable to Verify Certificate message," go ahead and Tap the Accept button.

6. The device will than continue verifying the account. Once complete, tap the Server field, and enter in "connect.emailsrvr.com" minus the parenthesis.

7. Tap the Next button and the device will then try to create a secure (SSL) connection to your Exchange server. When connected, you'll see check marks along your settings to confirm that your account has been verified.

8. Tap the ON/OFF buttons to select which information to synchronize with the Exchange server and then tap the Done button when finished.

Note: Your iPhone may take a moment to sync all your information depending on how much you have on the Exchange server. To learn more about the mail settings on your device tap Settings from the home screen, than Mail, Contacts, & Calendars and than select your account. You'll be able to customize how much data you would like to sync from the server.

Hi. I have tried this option several times to connect my email to my phone. It will not work. It keeps giving me unable to verify account information. I have changed the password twice and tried it several different times. I am able to log in via the internet into my account using the password, but still will not let me log in to my phone! Please help. It is very important that this is fixed!

Hello Adam,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Please be sure that your administrator has assigned an activesync license to your email address. Without this license, you will not be able to connect. If you have a license assigned, please be sure to reach out to our support staff so that they can test your account out on their end.

Best,
Rae

Hi. I'm trying to switch from my Blackberry to an iPhone and am running into this as well. I've used the information in the Active Sync client setup without success. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Removing and re-adding the active snync account should work if it keeps saying "Unable to Verify Account Information" and you have checked everything else.

Great suggestion, Luu.
Yes — this procedure does work as well. Something with the OS that keeps popping up this strange behavior.

I followed the instructions to the letter but was not successful. I tried to re enter the information and now it get this message: Cannot Create Account. An identical exchange accout already exists.
Now what?

Hey Bob,

I'm certain that there's a duplicate email address somewhere in the system that's preventing you from setting up your account. Our support team will have to look up your account to get some information for you — they'll be able to resolve this for you. If you're the administrator for your account, please contact our support team at (888)850-3994.

Not receiving emails to my email exchange address

I added my Ipad to my work exchange account. and it work fine. But today i had a day off and i went to check my email and the exchange tab was gone from mail contacs messages?? can i only use exchange when im on the company WiFi? and help would be great

Hey Raul,

That's strange, I'ver never heard of that. Because this sounds like an anomaly, I would suggest deleting the account and resetting it up all over again. Sometimes a hiccup occurs and throws everything off course; hopefully this is the case for you. Please let us know if resetting up the account solves the issue.

That can happen when the server-side certificates aren't correctly configured, or the servername you used during the exchange account setup on your iPad is internal only.

Every email I received on my IPhone 4 is duplicated. How do I remedy that?

I have added an exchange account to my iPad but I can now only open my Calander when the exchange account is switched off. If I switch the exchange account on I cannot then open my calendar

Hey Mike,

that's strange, I've never heard of that issue happening before. Sounds like a bug. Have you tried restarting your iPad? I'd try that first, or removing the account and then adding it back. Definitely sounds like a IOS bug.

what is meant by description, and description password???

The description is just a name you'll recognize when you see it in the accounts list. No one else sees that - it's just a label you use for the account on your phone only.

The password is your account password. It isn't related to the description, it's the password you use to access your email.

For some reason i keep getting the error "The connection to the server failed"

Internet is working fine, gmail works and all other apps also work but the Microsoft Exchange doesnt work!

Any help will be highly appreciated!

Pratistha, please make sure your administrator has assigned an activesync license to your account. Also, make sure your password is correct. Though, the message you provided is usually related to an activesync license not being properly assigned.

Followed the procedure, says unable to verify account information

It might be an issue with your account's permissions on the server - check with the administrator of your active directory to make sure your permissions allow you to use activesync. If that doesn't turn up any issues, please contact our support team and they can assist you with checking your account for any problems.

I can not use exchange rackspace with, iPhone, iPad, & Android ... Serveur connect.emailsrvr.com not applicable. I understand, because MAIL on iMac is in use.

Dany

Hey Dany,

Please make sure you have an Activesync license assigned to your email address; otherwise, you won't be able to connect. Also, please be sure you're on a Exchange 2010 platform and not on the 2007 platform.

I set up my exchange account just fine and received emails just fine for a few weeks, then all of a sudden, as soon as I leave the office, I cannot get any more emails to my phone. Once I re-enter the work building, it syncs and I get all my emails, but that kind of defeats the purpose. Is there a setting I may have accidentally changed?

Interesting. Are you using the Server setting listed in the article, or might your phone have auto-setup different server settings? It sounds like the phone may be trying to use a server setting that would only be accessible from your office's intranet and would be blocked from outside networks (which is what you'd be on outside of work).

Well, I just checked my server name and I had copied the one from my email here at work which meant it ended in server.abc.LOCAL instead of .com, so I am assuming it only connected when I was in the vicinity of the local server. I will know better when I leave for lunch today.
But it still confuses me why it worked for 3 weeks before and then all of a sudden stopped. I live 30 miles away from my office and it worked. Hmmmmm, I will see later. Thank you for your reply and your help!

No problem. You might check with your mail admins to see if they can suggest an externally-available mail server address, or if they intentionally restricted mail access to in-office-only.

Hi Guys , I am una ble to get my iPad to accept the settings for my work mail, however the same details are working fine on my Mac laptop n outlook. What could be the problem?

Make sure that your admin has an active sync license associated with your account. Should you need further assistance please feel free to contact us any time at 888.850.3994!

..outlook refresh...I just selected push option, no limit on other option, but still doing the same, I open an email but outlook refresh and they go away, please help, thanks, HB

We will need a bit more information on the set up. Please contact us at 888.850.3994 so that we can troubleshoot a little more in depth.

I followed the instructions but on my iPad, the connection server failed comes once and the next option after clicking ok is, either cancel or save. If I cancel, it goes back to square one. If I save, I cannot access the email because it says the server didn't recognize it. Please any advice?

I have iOS 6 installed, tried to get Microsoft Exchange installed, still can't verify the account. I've tried so many times.
