Setting Up Rackspace Email On Your iPhone, iPad, & iPod.

The following article will get your Rackspace email account setup on your iPhone using an IMAP connection. An IMAP connection allows you to access and manage your email directly from Rackspace servers. Any changes made on your device will be replicated on the server. Let's take a look at how tp set this up:

1. From the home screen on your device tap Settings, and then Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

2. You'll then tap Add Account, Tap Other and then Add Mail Account.

3. The "New Account" screen will appear and you'll then Enter in the following information in the fields provided, and then tap the Save button.

  • Name - Enter in your first and last name. This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.
  • Address - Enter your entire email address (e.g., myname@mydomain.com).
  • Password - Enter the password for your email account.
  • Description - Enter a descriptive name for the account (e.g. Work Account). This description will only be visible to you.

4. After your account has been looked up, you'll then select IMAP located at the top and then enter in both the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server fields with the following information:

  • Host Name - Enter in the secure server name: secure.emailsrvr.com
  • User Name - Enter in your entire email address (e.g., myname@mydomain.com).
  • Password - Enter in the password for your email account.

5. After you've entered in all the information, tap Save and the device will then verify your settings. After you've been verified, you'll then be take to the Mail & Notes screen.

Mapping Your Folders

Mapping your folders allows you to synchronize email across all your devices, email clients and the web. By default, some email clients and mobile devices create their own folders for Sent, Trash, Spam etc. You can map your sent, deleted, and spam messages to their proper folders as will as access any sub-folders you've created by following the procedure below:

1. After you've set up your mail account, go back to your home screen and Tap your Mail icon.

2. Select your newly created Mailbox and let all your mail synchronize and then go back to your home screen.

3. From the home screen tap Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, select your Account, and then select your Account one more time.

4. You'll then tap Advanced located at the bottom, tap Drafts and on the next screen, select Drafts under the Server option.

Note: Repeat step number 4 for your Sent and Trash folders.

Note: You'll see that all your sub-folders have populated under the Server option.

can't trash, reply or forward, etc. Says "doesn't allow relaying." what can i do get get the Iphone to allow this...It worked perfectly on my BlackBerry.

Hello,

the "doesn't allow relaying" error usually results from not having the correct server address in the incoming and outgoing server fields. Please be sure that you are using "secure.emailsrvr.com" for both the incoming and outgoing server. I'd recommend removing the account and starting from the beginning.

-Rae

teh last time this happened we were able jus to change the port to restore email. Can you tell me what the port number should be for an Ipad?

I switched from blackberry to iPhone 5. I cannot delete email from the server, only the phone. This worked fine on the blackberry.

Hey Morgan,

Make sure you're not making a "POP" connection and enabled the option to "Leave a copy on the server" when mail is deleted from your iPhone. Please re-setup your phone with the IMAP instructions listed above. Once you've made an IMAP connection your mail will delete from the server as well.

Need solution - have message cannot connect using SSL -- should I try setting p the account without the SSL?
client is here -- limited time to do this...

You can try that, per Rae's instructions to Liz above (changing the port to 165 and changing the outgoing mail server to "imap.emailsrvr.com").

Sorry we didn't get back to you immediately - the comments here aren't really intended as an immediate support solution. For the quickest help you can call Rackspace Email Support at (888) 850-3994.

I can't see my sub folders that I have set up on my desktop on my iPhone? I have followed the instructions above. Do I need to change my port? Or secure.emailsrvr.com to something else?

Hey Robert,

That's strange. Did you see the instructions at the bottom of the article for "Mapping Your Folders"? If you did, and tried that option, something is definitely off. Very strange indeed. Using the "secure" connection wouldn't make a difference. I would suggest calling into our support staff at (888) 850-3994 so they can setup your account on one of our test devices and further investigate.

Is there a way for my Outlook Calendar to sync with my iPhone?

Hey Rob,

You can definitely have your Outlook calendar sync with your iphone if you have a rackspace email account. The following instructions will get you started: http://rax.io/7ck3 & http://rax.io/9eb3

If you don't have access to the control panel, please contact your administrator.

Every time I try to send an email it says "the username or password for secure.emailsvr is incorrect."

Hey Phil,

it sounds like the username or password for your email address changed. Can you still receive email? Try logging into http://apps.rackspace.com/ with your current username and password and if you're not allowed in, it's definitely a username or password issue. Also, please make sure you are using secure.emailsrvr.com. Contact your admin to make sure your password didn't change.

everytime i try sending an email it says the recipient was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying even with people with the rackspace email accounts

I am not able to delete messages from this account. I am able to do everything else. I get the message

"Unable to Move Message
the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash."

Any solutions?
