Setting Up Rackspace Email On Your Android

The following article will get your Rackspace email account setup with your Android mobile device using an IMAP connection. An IMAP connection will allow you to access and manage your email directly from Rackspace servers. Any changes made on your device will be replicated on the server. Let's take a look at the following steps:

Android Mobile Device Setup

1. From the home screen on your device, tap the Settings icon.

2. Next, in the Incoming Settings section select IMAP from the drop down menu and enter your email address, username, and password. In the IMAP server field, enter "secure.emailsrvr.com" and be sure that SSL is selected and 993 is the server port.

3. Next, in the Outgoing Server Settings section, in the SMTP server field, enter "secure.emailsrvr.com" and be sure that SSL is selected and 465 is the server port.

4. In the last screen, give your newly created account a name and then select Finish Setup.

Hello - do we use our same user name for the new account?

Hey Patrick,

The username will always be the email address you're setting up. Please let us know if you need anything else.

Client needs it set up on Motorola Droid X - there is no "Incoming Settings" in the Settings and adding an account does not automatically configure. Advice?

Response to my previous comment - I found it - Anyone who needs it - just have client go to Accounts, Add Account & Uncheck "Automatically configure" then just enter IMAP info from above :)

Glad to hear you got it working, Daniel. And thanks for posting your solution!

Have a new Droid Razr HD. My setup structure is nothing like the above. Is there a different setup I should be using?

Calling our support phone number might be the best approach, since they should be able to talk you through the screens. You could also try the manufacturer's support number or your mobile service provider.

In general mail programs can differ in their interfaces, but the basic settings they need are similar. There should be an option in the program settings, or in a list of accounts, to add a new account. From there it's a matter of telling the program what type of connection to make (for this article, that would be IMAP) and then the other settings it will need to connect (the hostname, the port, SSL, the username, and the password).

The instructions in the article describe the standard Android mail setup, but different manufacturers might use different mail interfaces. You might try going into the mail program, touching the menu button, and seeing if there's a settings option. From there you might find an account list and maybe a "+" or "new account" button that would let you get to the account configuration screen.

Using your "Setting Up Rackspace Email On Your Android" documentation does not work for the Galaxy S4. Please help. I always get incoming server Authentication failed using the IMAP settings and cannot proceed manually setting up the account.

Hey TC,

I have an S4 myself, so I went ahead and tried to replicate the issue. I was able to get through the setup with no issues.

The error you are receiving sounds more so that you are using the incorrect password or you do not have your full email address entered in the username field.

Verify that you can login to webmail with your password: https://email.rackspace.com

If you are able to login, then the same password should work on the device. If you are not able to login, you would need to reset your password via the admin control panel. If you do not have access to the control panel, contact your admin.
