Rackspace Cloud Essentials 2 - Creating A Cloud Server

This article is written for our New Cloud Control Panel. A version of this article is also available for our Classic Cloud Control Panel

Note: UK Cloud customers must use https://mycloud.rackspace.co.uk/ to access our New Cloud Control Panel.

The following article will demonstrate how to setup a Cloud Server through the next generation interface.
First thing you'll do is login to the New Cloud Control Panel, select Servers at the top and then Create Server.

  1. Next, under Server Identity you'll enter in a name for your server in the Server Name field.

  1. Next, under images select which type of OS (Operating system) you would like to use from the list available.

  1. Next, you'll select the size of the server under the Size section and then select Create Server.

  1. Your server is now going through the building process. Once finished, your server will then display "Running" which you'll then be able to login to using RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).

After you create your cloud server you're probably wondering what to do next. For step by step instructions on how to configure your new machine, you can check out a post I recently published to my blog here: http://oneqonea.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-do-i-set-up-next-generation.html

Not at all bad, thanks John. We're working on improving these "first steps" articles, probably something closer to what Slicehost had. I will say that I prefer using the if-pre-up.d directory to hold a separate script to start iptables, so you don't have to edit the interfaces file. That's described in this article's iptables section:
