For the Rackspace Open Cloud offering, we have simplified the image list for Infrastructure Service Level RackConnect customers. As long as your RackConnect implementation is complete, you can select from any standard base images displayed in your image list (via the API, MyRackspace Portal, or the Cloud Control Panel) and we will be able to configure RackConnect on your cloud servers. This is now true for Windows and Linux images, as well as Managed Cloud Service Level and Infrastructure Service Level customers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The MyRackspace Portal and Cloud Control Panel now allow you to choose between creating “First-Gen Cloud Servers” and “Next-Gen Cloud Servers”. When creating “Next-Gen Cloud Servers”, be sure to select the same region where your RackConnect Configuration is located. Otherwise, RackConnect automation will fail, and you will need to re-create the Cloud Server in the proper region.
Selecting between First-Gen and Next-Gen Cloud Servers in the MyRackspace Portal
Next Generation Cloud Servers introduces a new concept to each server instance called the “access IP”. This value is accessible via the API. It is already part of the MyRackspace Portal and is being added to the Cloud Control Panel soon. At server build time, it is populated with the public IP of the server. In the case of a RackConnected cloud server, the RackConnect automation updates the access IP to reflect the public IP NATed through the RackConnect Edge Network Device.
Note: There are accessIPv4 and accessIPv6 values in the API. RackConnect continues to be an IPv4-only solution, so only accessIPv4 will reflect a value once the RackConnect automation has performed its post-build updates. Since these values can be updated via the public API, it is possible (although not recommended) for you to modify the values.
