Perform a WHOIS search
A WHOIS search reveals details about a domain name, including who owns it, where it was registered, when it expires, and which name servers are assigned to the domain. There are many software tools for performing a WHOIS search, and you can also search online. One good web site to try is http://whois.domaintools.com/. To perform a WHOIS search on this site, follow these steps:
- Go to http://whois.domaintools.com/.
- In the text box, type the domain name that you want to look up, and then click Search.
- Review the WHOIS information provided. The registrar and name servers are usually listed towards the bottom of the page.
Note: If http://whois.domaintools.com/ does not provide details about a domain name, it might be because the domain name is for sale and not currently registered. To learn how to purchase the domain, see Registering and/or Transferring Domain Names.
To learn how to update your domain registration records, see Set up your domain name to work with your Cloud Sites account.
