The Rackspace Cloud makes backups of your data on a nightly basis. However, its purpose is for disaster recovery on the server side. If for any reason a storage node on our side were to crash, our backups will be there to replace any lost data.
With that said, we recommend that you make periodic backups of you site and data to your local computer. If you need a backup of your MySQL or MS SQL databases, they can be exported through our online utilities or by connecting directly to the servers using desktop software.

Rackspace Cloud Backup
Re: backup software

That program allows you to schedule backups to your local machine directly. It also lets you mount your Cloud Files repository on your desktop as a disk so you can use any other backup software. The downside is that JungleDisk costs money to use.
A free alternative that doesn't have automatic backup scheduling or filesystem mounting but works well for manual backups is Cyberduck:

Cyberduck connects to Cloud Files like a typical FTP client. You can drag containers as if they were folders to your local machine or you can select a "synchronize" action to sync up a container's contents with a local folder.
