Hosted Lync DNS set up

To complete the configuration of your hosted implementation of Microsoft Lync, you must set up DNS records. Create the following entries on your DNS server:

  • CNAME records
  • Service records

Note: If you are a Rackspace Hosted Exchange customer, then these settings are in addition to what you might currently have for Hosted Exchange Autodiscover.

How to create DNS records

Contact your DNS hosting provider and ask them to create the following DNS records. If you have access to the control panel for your DNS, you can make this change yourself. If you have an internal DNS, you must also set up these records up on your internal DNS.

CNAME records

The following records are Canonical Name (CNAME) records, wich are often referred to as alias records.

Replace example.com in the following examples with your own domain name.

Service records

The following records are Service (SRV) records. An SRV record is a specification of data in the DNS that defines the location (host name and port number) of servers for specified services. You must define both of the following SRV records.

Replace example.com in the following examples with your own domain name.
