Configuring Monitoring for a Managed Cloud Server


NOTE: This article is written for our Classic Cloud Control Panel. You can access this interface from the New Cloud Control Panel by clicking your username in the upper-right of the control panel and selecting "Classic Cloud Control Panel".

This applies to our Managed Service Level only

Included with your Managed Service Cloud Server is the ability to create up to four server monitors - including Ping, Port and URL. This article will walk you through configuring these monitors on your Cloud Server.

1. Log into the Classic Cloud Control Panel.

2. Click on Hosting.

3. Click on Cloud Servers.

4. Select the server you want to configure monitoring for by clicking on it.

5. Click on the Monitoring tab (which is only visible for managed servers).

6. Click on the Add button to add a new monitor.

7. In the Add Monitor box click on the drop down and select the type of monitor you want to set up.

a. For a Ping type of monitor select Ping in the monitor type and select the IP address you want to monitor from the Host Address drop down (you can have up to five (5) IP addresses on a single server the Primary will be labeled as such) and click the OK button.

b. The ping monitor will now appear in the monitors list you will see several columns their meaning is as follows: State – This tells you if the monitor is Online (passed the last test) or Alert (failed the last test) if a ping fails 3 of 5 pings the monitor will go into Alert state Type – This tells you what type of monitor it is (Ping, Port or URL) Status – Is the monitor Enabled or Disabled Ticket # - If the monitor is in Alert for 6 minutes a ticket will be created for the monitor and the ticket number will be visible here. Address – This is the IP address that is being pinged for this Monitor Protocol – This is the protocol being used for a Port monitor Port – This is the port being monitored for a Port Monitor.

c. To set up a Port Monitor select Port from the Monitor Type drop down then select the IP address from the Host Address drop down, finally select the Protocol from the Protocol/Port drop down (default ports for the protocol are automatically populated), if needed you may change the port from the default to any customized port you may need and Click OK when finished.

d. You will now see the Port monitor in the Monitors section. You will see several columns their meaning is as follows: State – This tells you if the monitor is Online (passed the last test) or Alert (failed the last test) if a ping fails 3 of 5 pings the monitor will go into Alert state Type – This tells you what type of monitor it is (Ping, Port or URL) Status – Is the monitor Enabled or Disabled Ticket # - If the monitor is in Alert for 6 minutes a ticket will be created for the monitor and the ticket number will be visible here. e. To set up a URL monitor select URL from the Monitor Type drop down. Fill in the Address box with the URL you wish to monitor. Fill in the Content Match with a word or phrase that will appear on the page when it successfully loads youcan also populate the Error If Match box with the content that will be displayed if the URL is failing ( For example 501 Error or if you have custom error handling anything you may use or any word or phrase that may show up) When the form is filled out click OK.

f. You will now see the URL monitor in the Monitors section. You will see several columns their meaning is as follows: State – This tells you if the monitor is Online (passed the last test) or Alert (failed the last test) if a ping fails 3 of 5 pings the monitor will go into Alert state Type – This tells you what type of monitor it is (Ping, Port or URL) Status – Is the monitor Enabled or Disabled Ticket # - If the monitor is in Alert for 6 minutes a ticket will be created for the monitor and the ticket number will be visible here. Address – This is the IP address that is being pinged for this Monitor Protocol – This is the protocol being used for a Port monitor Port – This is the port being monitored for a Port Monitor.

8. To delete a monitor select the monitor you want to delete by clicking on the check box to the right of the Monitor(s).

a. Then click on the Delete Button (**NOTE** you will NOT be asked to confirm this decision) and the Monitor will be removed from the Monitors section.

9. To disable a monitor select the monitor you want to disable by click on the check box to the right of the monitor(s).

a. Click on the Disable Selected Button (**NOTE** you will NOT be asked to confirm this decision) and the Monitor will be set to Disabled status and state.
