Shared Community Compact signals the beginning of an initiative to improve district resources and create a vibrant community
SAN ANTONIO – April 3, 2009 – Rackspace® Hosting, (NYSE: RAX), the leader and specialist in hosting, has agreed to support a “Shared Community Compact,” through which Rackspace will continue its efforts to revitalize the community in which it does business and offer expertise and support to the North East Independent School District (NEISD). As a symbol of the commitment to this cause, Rackspace President and CEO, Lanham Napier, Rackspace Chairman, Graham Weston, NEISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Richard A. Middleton, as well as the principals and student representatives from Theodore Roosevelt High School and the six surrounding schools, signed the Compact, which sets forth the support outline for this new initiative.
The intended result of the Compact is that the Roosevelt cluster of schools will be provided with support and funding for technology integrations in classrooms and facility upgrades, literacy projects, parent and teacher academies, access to leading community resources and investments into cutting edge, innovative programs. The focus of the initiative will be to improve the community through motivated students, engaged parents, socially responsible corporations and an involved community. Rackspace expects the total value of its contribution to support the Compact to reach up to half a million dollars over the next several years, through a variety of support channels, including cash contributions, supplies, and expertise.
“At Rackspace, we see an opportunity to build a world-class community right where we work and live,” said Graham Weston, Chairman, Rackspace Hosting. “Working closely with our neighbors at Roosevelt High School, and creating a fully involved community, from students and teachers, to citizens and companies, is our end goal and our support of the Compact will help bring that vision to fruition.”
“NEISD is privileged to have a community-focused company like Rackspace in our own backyard,” said Dr. Richard A. Middleton, Superintendent of Schools. “This is a tremendously valuable commitment for NEISD, and it will help launch our students and community toward success. Even in these economic times, Rackspace is stepping up as a role model and their support will certainly set the bar high for other businesses.”
