Rackspace Cloud Essentials - Your Account


NOTE: This article refers to the Cloud Sites Control Panel. You can access this interface from the Cloud Control Panel by clicking your username in the upper-right corner of the control panel and selecting Cloud Sites Control Panel.

Now that we've learned about the Billing Services available to you, let's take a closer look at the rest of the services available under the Your Account tab.

  • Username & Contacts- Use this section to update your password, 'Secret Question', or contact information. Your username is set at the time you create your account and cannot be changed.  To use a different username you wil need to close the account and create a new one. Each account has only one username, and there are no sub-accounts. If you have multiple team-members who need to access the Rackspace Cloud account, you will need to add each member as a Contact and share the account credentials with them. It is also important that they are provided with the correct answer to the 'Secret Question' for authentication purposes.

  • Under the Contacts section, pay special attention to the information you have set for the Primary Contact. The Primary Contact is the person who is authorized to make service requests, and is the only email address that is contacted when there is a service impacting event.  For best practices, you want the address for the Primary Contact to be one that is setup to receive critical information and is monitored 24 hours a day.

  • Your API key is a unique alphanumeric identifier associated with your account, and can be used to manage your assets through a scripting interface. Earlier in this series we learned how to activate your API key for the first time. Now, if you ever need to access your API key, reset it, or view it in plain text, you can do that under the API Accesssection.

  • Under the Contracts section, you will find important documents relating to the services you have contracted with Rackspace. These include our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and our Terms of Service (ToS).
