Virtualisation going global, says VMware official
October 20th, 2011 - Virtualisation has a strong foothold in the global market and should be set to continue standardisation in data centres around the world, according to Raghu Raghuram, senior vice president for cloud infrastructure and management at VMware.

Data centre growth outpacing general spending slowdown
September 9th, 2011 - Data centres have been booming - even in the face of significant downturns in other sectors and portions of the IT sector as well - and look set to continue upward growth in the next 12 months, according to the Datacenter Dynamics Industry Census for 2011.
Conducted throughout June and July 2011 sampling 5,400 workers in the IT sector, the findings of the survey cover the workings and trends at around 100,000 data centres, comprising 7.7 million server racks, Datacenter Dynamics said.

The updated software, dubbed Oracle VM 3.0, is designed with an end to improve scalability in terms of management and performance. This will be aided by enhancements such as better support for third-party storage management, new policy controls and the ability to increase the number of virtual machines run by a single server.
Veeam improves software for virtual backups

Enterprise email & virtualisation dominated by Apple products
May 18th, 2011 - Handheld devices produced by Apple Inc - including the iPhone and the iPad tablet computer - have seen far better rates of adoption for business purposes than their counterparts from other manufacturers, it has been revealed.
A new survey of smart phone users found that of those synced to hosted email, 61 per cent were manufactured by Apple. The Cupertino, California, company's nearest competition came in the form of the Android OS - pushed by Silicon Valley rivals Google - at 17 per cent.

Gartner confirms a growing role for IaaS
April 13th, 2011 - Adoption rates for infrastructure as a service (IaaS) have been confirmed for take-off by the analysts at Gartner, whose most recent figures indicate revenues will nearly triple in the years between 2011 and 2014.
The firm forecasts IaaS will generate some $10.5 billion in sales for 2014, up from an estimated $3.7 billion this year. However, analysts at the firm explained the industry still has a long way to go when it comes to implementing the infrastructure technology.
