Rackspace Training for OpenStack®
As powerful as the OpenStack software is, we know firsthand it takes a lot more than software to properly design, deploy, and operate a cloud at scale. Rackspace is delivering hands-on training courses for OpenStack developers and administrators. Initial courses will cover the fundamentals of setting up, administering, and troubleshooting OpenStack clouds, all with real-world situations in a training lab environment.
Rackspace training immerses students in the OpenStack environment so they can evaluate it for their use cases as well as improve performance of an existing installation. Students should walk away from the training course with the experience and knowledge to install, run, and operate OpenStack clouds.
OpenStack Fundamentals Training
The current training course offered by Rackspace Cloud Builders is a five-day OpenStack Cloud Fundamentals class. Two days of the course will be focused on OpenStack Object Storage, and three days on OpenStack Compute and Image Service. Because the classes provide hands-on training with real situations in a training lab environment, they are limited to 12 students per session.
By the end of the OpenStack Compute Course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the architecture of an OpenStack Compute Cloud deployment
- Define the key features of OpenStack Compute
- Identify suitable use-cases for OpenStack Compute
- Deploy an OpenStack Compute multi-server environment
- Implement and use OpenStack Image Service, OpenStack Identity, and OpenStack Dashboard services
- Create and manage images and instances
- Create and manage roles, users, and quotas
- Understand critical components of fault tolerance and scale
- Troubleshoot common issues in an OpenStack Compute environment
- Find additional OpenStack help and support resources
By the end of the OpenStack Object Storage Course, learners will be able to:
- Describe the architecture of an OpenStack Object Storage deployment
- Define the key feature of OpenStack Object Storage
- Identify suitable use-cases for OpenStack Object Storage
- Deploy an OpenStack Object Storage multi-server environment
- Use the CLI and API to perform file creation and manipulation
- Create and manage roles, permissions, and ACLs
- Use best practices in performance and ring management
- Understand critical components of fault tolerance and scale
- Troubleshoot common issues in an OpenStack Object Storage environment
- Find additional OpenStack help and support resources

Who should take the Rackspace Cloud Builders training for OpenStack?
System administrators and solution architects who will be deploying OpenStack clouds are ideal for the training courses. We are developing curriculum with IT professionals or developers in mind who have at least six months of Linux system administrator experience and are proficient at command line interface use and bash scripting.

What kind of hands-on experience will the courses provide?
Because cloud infrastructure is scalable and distributed, you need to work in an environment with access to clusters of servers to truly understand how to effectively manage and grow a cloud. Rackspace Cloud Builders courses are conducted using our unique multi-system training lab. Students are better able to understand distributed systems through exercises and activities that provide with real-world experience. Learn to scale cloud storage across multiple servers and how to expand the computer system as usage increases.
