Rackspace Cloud Builders Customers & Expertise

Rackspace has a team exclusively focused on deploying OpenStack private clouds for our customers. Many of the team members are core contributors to the OpenStack project.

Collectively, the team has years of experience building large-scale cloud environments at Rackspace, NASA, and an expanding list of large enterprises.



Jesse Andrews

Jesse Andrews was co-founder and Anso Labs CEO, before joining the Rackspace Cloud Builders team with the acquisition of Anso Labs by Rackspace. Jesse is deeply passionate about building scalable architecture, developing open source platforms, and delivering features that delight users. Before NASA and Anso Labs, Jesse was the Lead Architect for Flock, an award winning social web browser; he co-founded DanceJam.com, a video sharing and competition website for dance fans; and he was a Fellow for CommerceNet, focusing on internet security. Jesse also created Book Burro, a Firefox extension that allows for seamless price comparison and checking of libraries when on pages that contain a book's ISBN.

Vishvananda Ishaya

Vish Ishaya was Anso Labs Senior Systems Engineer (now an Engineer with Rackspace Cloud Builders) and is NASA Nebula Technical Lead. He is a highly prolific developer who is one of the top contributors of the OpenStack project. During the November 2010 OpenStack conference, he won an OpenStack award for his development and community efforts, and was also elected to the OpenStack Board, which along with other prominent community members helps guide the vision of the OpenStack project. In addition to his excellent programming and systems skills, Vish has spent over a decade leading teaching object oriented analysis and design.

Ron Pedde

Ron Pedde has nearly 20 years of experience in the IT industry, including experience as a programmer, network administrator, systems administrator, and systems engineer. He has considerable experience in the design and implementation of large scale systems for enterprises and web-scale companies. As a systems generalist, Ron's diverse experience helps him find unique solutions for any problem. Ron thrives on challenge, and enjoys the effort of turning complex requirements into elegant solutions.


Anthony Young

Anthony is an entrepreneur and developer with a passion for new technology and products. Most recently, Anthony led the web technology team of Tapulous, which was recently acquired by Disney. Anthony also co-founded Flock and DanceJam, where he first got to work with many of the excellent members of the Anso Labs team. He's now a key member of the Rackspace Cloud Builders team, after the acquisition of Anso Labs by Rackspace.


Anne Gentle

Anne valiantly performs the fanatical tasks of Instructional Design for Rackspace Cloud Builders training programs as well as technical writer and community documentation coordinator for OpenStack. She's so enthused about community methods for documentation that she wrote a book about using social publishing techniques for technical documentation titled Conversation and Community: The Social Web for Documentation. Anne also volunteers as a documentation maintainer for FLOSS Manuals, which provides open source documentation for open source projects. She writes a blog at justwriteclick.com and enjoys advocating for social and community techniques for web content when she presents to all the old school technical writers in the world.

Andy Smith

Andy, aka 'termie,' is a seasoned software developer who most recently worked at Google, where he contributed to App Engine using python, Java, and C++. Andy also acquired significant startup experience working at Jaiku (purchased by Google in 2009) and Flock. Andy has been a passionate contributor to the OpenStack project, often focusing his attention on software architecture and APIs, and is also an experienced public speaker whose talks include "Migrating from LAMP to App Engine", "A Critical look at OpenID", and "Django, App Engine, and django-nonrel."

Chmouel Boudjnah

Chmouel Boudjnah was an Operating System Engineer at MandrakeSoft (now Mandriva) for several years, integrating the low-level components of the Linux Operating System, like Linux-Kernel, gcc and glibc. After a few years working in Australia, he joined Rackspace as a Lead Engineer, and then joined the Rackspace Cloud team. He now serves as a Rackspace Cloud Builders Engineer, helping customers deploy their own OpenStack cloud.

Soo Choi

Soo Choi was co-founder and Anso Labs COO, before joining Rackspace Cloud Builders with the acquisition of Anso Labs by Rackspace. Soo loves managing and mobilizing complex process and IT program/project implementations within schedule and budget for commercial and federal government clients. For 15 years, she successfully led program and project teams for the entire development lifecycle of global software applications and subsequent implementation of software applications to solve the client's need through technology. Clients include several Fortune 100 companies as well as NASA, JPL, US Department of Justice, and USDA. Before Anso Labs, Soo held senior management positions with Booz Allen Hamilton and Cable & Wireless, PLC.

Jonathan Bryce

Jonathan Bryce is Founder of the Rackspace Cloud. He started his career working as a web developer for Rackspace, and during his tenure, he and co-worker Todd Morey had a vision to build a sophisticated web hosting environment where users and businesses alike could turn to design, develop and deploy their ideal web site—all without being responsible for procuring the technology, installing it or making sure it is built to be always available. This vision became the Rackspace Cloud. He currently spends his time on OpenStack, the open source cloud software initiative.

Jim Curry

Jim Curry is General Manager of Rackspace. He was an integral part of founding and managing the open source community, and has been responsible for driving the OpenStack™ initiative, including major relationships, community-driven development and adoption.

Jim was previously the VP of corporate development at Rackspace and maintains responsibility for the company's M&A and venture investing activities, including the acquisitions of Webmail.us, Slicehost and Jungle Disk. Jim also manages strategic product partner alliances for Rackspace, particularly in the areas of cloud computing and applications, and incubating new businesses at the company including the Managed Colocation offering and Hong Kong businesses. Jim has also held leadership positions with several other technology startups including Bowstreet and Tivoli, both acquired by IBM.
