Content delivery networks (CDNs) work by caching content at various locations around the world. When you distribute your media using a CDN, it resides closer to your visitors geographically, so it takes less time to get to them.
We integrated Cloud Files with the CDN market leader. Rackspace uses 213 of Akamai’s edge locations, selected especially for our customers’ typical usage patterns in all major areas of the globe.
Other features include:
- The ability to turn long CDN URLs into shorter, branded URLs by using a CNAME.
- SSL encryption, which provides more security for your media.
- The ability for customers to purge cached content and request updated content.
- HTTP compression to lower your bandwidth charges and speed up performance.
- HTTP streaming for videos, which shortens start times and gives your users more flexibility to navigate the video.

Sign up for the Rackspace Cloud or use your existing account
If you don't already have a Rackspace Cloud account, sign up now.
Add a Cloud Files container and enable the Akamai CDN
It’s that simple. You can upload your file, then publish it on the Akamai CDN with the click of a button.
Pay only for what you use
There’s no long-term contract, and no up-front cost for Cloud Files. Pay only for the storage space and bandwidth you use.
