    I find the video slightly worrying.

    Being cloud based as customers we have to have total faith in you and your team as we have no visibility behind the curtains. This video highlights mavericks, individuality and doesn’t wow me with confidence that you have solid processes or individuals who will adhere to those processes.

    While highlighting culture in this way works wonders for recruitment (like I can see this is for) – I am wholly convinced that it plays out badly for customers. Web startups thrive on this kind of culture. System companies presenting themselves as utilities that you can use and forget probably shouldn’t present themselves in this way.

    As a customer with critical systems run by you guys I want to see a room full of tie wearing accountants !!! I want to see well structured control rooms. I want to see visitors given connections (and space to work) that isn’t next to someone playing noisy ping pong. Presumably those visitors are doing something important (e.g. perhaps they are consultants fixing a critical issue). You put them next to the ping pong table? :)

    I love what you guys are doing and I know it is dull to present yourselves seriously. However I expect a serious approach from companies that are looking after our critical systems.

    Accountant types are generally a bit less creative than these people. Without these people running the show we wouldn’t be seeing this crazy new cloud stuff. Don’t mistake a lot of people showing off for a camera for people who know how to do their job. I’ve met a accountant looking people that I wouldn’t trust with my personal computer, let alone my server cluster.

    Hi Dustin
    I agree with the general thrust of your statement – however I believe it is not about what you are – but about what you present yourselves as.

    What a cloud hosting company presents as is the “world view” or reality that customers believe.

    Cloud hosting is meant to be as dull as turning on electricity for a gadget. Its just meant to be like a utility.

    I believe it should therefore be presented as such – even if behind the scenes you have chaos, ping pong and whatever – because that is what you need to attract the brightest people to come and work for you.

    As a web tech person myself I have to go and present the concept of hosting on the cloud to clients….. and they don’t understand videos like this.

    Have a culture like this – Yes
    Present your company culture like this to consumers – No
    Make this video – Yes
    Put it on customer facing blog – No

    Thanks for letting us into your office, it’s great to put a face to the names. I’ve been very impressed with the support so far – I dealt with Thomas a week ago and he certainly knows his stuff.
    Would have been nice to see the server room though! Although I guess that’s located elsewhere.
