On 12 February 2009, 202 cities around the world held Twestivals, bringing together the Twitter community for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.
$250,000 USD were raised to provide clean drinking water to over 17,000 people. The Rackspace Cloud is proud to have been a part of Twestival, Austin, where $8886 was raised, and a proud sponsor of the event along with our sister company, JungleDisk.
Here’s the video of the first well being completed in Ethiopia:
And if you couldn’t make it, here’s a video composite of the event in Austin:
Cheers to the Internet, the Twitter communities that support non-profits like charity:water, and more events that bring techies together for a good cause like this. Let’s raise a glass (of water) to that.
That’s awesome! But as you know, the work isn’t done.
Water to Thrive, an Austin based charity, is having a benefit on June 25 at Lambert’s Downtown BBQ. It’s great music by Gary Clark, Jr, great food, and a great time, all for a great cause! Tickets are $25 per person and $40 per couple. Come and learn about our recent trip to Ethiopia and our current projects!
