“Our nation’s economic recovery is picking up speed, and we are beginning to see stronger job growth” said Thomas J. Donohue, President and CEO of US Chamber of Commerce in his welcoming speech at America’s Small Business Summit held in Washington DC and hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce. And the Space Cowboys from the Rackspace Startup Program were there to cover the event from the Rally on Capitol Hill to The Latino Coalition’s awards banquet in the hallways of the Senate. Startup businesses from all over the nation were in attendance to learn about putting Americans back to work, opening up new export markets, government regulations on business, and the US Chambers Small Business Nation resource website for startups. Senators and Representatives took the time to speak to us about important business decisions that affect startups around the country. Big business was present at the summit with sponsors and vendors including American Airlines, Sam’s Club, Aflac, FedEx and Facebook.
America’s Small Business Summit came on the heels of the announcement by President Obama of the Startup America Partnership, the White House initiative to celebrate, inspire, and accelerate high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the nation. Startups are engines of job creation. Entrepreneurs intent on growing their businesses create the lion’s share of new jobs, in every part of the country and in every industry including clean energy, medicine and information technology.
The Startup America Partnership has secured commitments of more than $400 million in value from companies and organizations like Intel and IBM to deliver strategic and substantive resources that accelerate entrepreneurs starting and scaling companies. “Young businesses have created 40 million jobs over the past 25 years, and the need to create a strong ecosystem for startups in our country is more paramount than ever,” said Scott Case, CEO of the Startup America Partnership. “These new partnerships will help ensure that startups have every best chance to succeed.”
Companies at varying levels of the new business life cycle can utilize the resources of the Startup America Partnership. The partnership will be rolling out a new free membership program, which will allow young companies ranging from Startup, Rampup and Speedup stages to apply for access to these resources to help them grow. The Rackspace Startup Program encourages businesses to become a member of the Startup America Partnership and attend conferences geared toward American business like America’s Small Business Summit…which will give you even more Rocket Fuel for your Startup!
