This past Sunday the Rackspace Foundation sponsored a chess simul held at Roosevelt High School’s Molly Pruitt Library. During the simul, or simultaneous exhibition, chess master Alex Weinberg played chess with 35 people at once.
The games began promptly at 1:00 pm and four hours later there were only five people standing: John Redding, John Bradley, Glenn Weston, Grant Weston, and Gage Weston. Redding and Bradley both held Weinberg to a draw. Cash prizes were given to the final three standing, which went to the three Weston brothers. Their father and Rackspace Chairman, Graham Weston, also competed in the simul.
If you could not make it out to the simul you can watch the full competition on www.nowcastsa.com. Full commentary is available. Speaking of NowCastSA, on Sunday the site had 384 page visits and about 893 page views watching the chess action. The traffic came from 96 different cities, 22 countries and five continents!
Also, if you are interested in getting into the chess fun please check out Family Chess Night at the Molly Pruitt Library every Thursday from 5:45pm – 8:00 pm!
