The CloudDB Client: An Extension For The Rackspace Cloud Database API

Ok. So what is the Cloud DB Client? It’s a user interface packaged as a Google Chrome extension for the Rackspace Cloud Database API service.

Here it is here (click to enlarge):

I wrote the CloudDB Client for Rackspace Cloud Databases – now available in an Early Access program —  to grow the audience of users that require a UI.

Right now, the CloudDB Client exposes browsing, create and delete functionality, and if there’s a demand, more functionality will be added.

Since this is something I built, I am more than happy to provide basic support as time allows. As with anything, there may be bugs, so please reach out if you encounter one. Since I made this, it is not a Rackspace-supported product.

Now for a quick disclaimer: You should know that this extension exposes capabilities that could, in rare cases, result in the loss of data, and I will not be held responsible for loss of data incurred by using this extension, whether it’s accidental or intentional.

If that sounds good to you and you’re looking for a user interface extension for the Rackspace Cloud Database API service, feel free to dive right in and download the CloudDB Client now, and pretty soon the source code will be made available via github.

And, if this extension takes off, I’ll work on exposing more of the Cloud Database API functionality.

Thanks so much for building this. I am literally in the process of a migration and would prefer to use the DB product vs managing a db server. I will be looking into this shortly.

You are welcome,

I hope the current limited functionality is of use to you. Hopefully soon I will be able to complete the remainder of the exposed API features!

This plugin is good, though creating UK DB servers seem to go through building and then fail using this plugin. However worked when went through the cutting and pasting with the UK servers from the API documentation, so not sure if this is related to a bug in the plugin missing out something or if just coincidental to when there was a problem or not.

Unfortunately yes, it is coincidental. Currently there is an issue present within the Cloud Database API that allows creates to fail under certain circumstances. We will be addressing this shortly with a new release of the API.

Hi! Any updates for this extension? Chrome updated to v20.* and the extension isn’t working anymore. It get’s stuck on authenticating.

Excellent tool! Is there a similar one for managing server instances?
