September brings us the International Day of Peace on the 21st of the month, marking its 30th anniversary with this year’s theme of “Right of the Peoples to Peace,” which is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and people. Cartoon icon Scooby Doo, King Richard the Lion-Hearted, Olympian Jesse Owens and HG Wells were all born in September. The New York Times was first published in September 1851, and Google was incorporated in 1998. And, in the words of poet Helen Hunt Jackson, “By all these lovely tokens September days are here, with summer’s best of weather and autumn’s best of cheer.”

Social media platforms are where people go to get information and help from (and sometimes to complain about) the brands they do business with. Until recently, the designers of social engagement tools have primarily focused on marketing functions, not customer service or the increasing demand for support. HelpSocial, a Rackspace Startup Program member founded by two former Rackers, hopes to change that with its social engagement platform built specifically to provide customer service on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

The 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton; chef and TV star Julia Child; The Star Spangled Banner lyricist Francis Scott Key; and professional wrestler Hulk Hogan were all born in August. And in the words of singer, songwriter Garth Brooks, “That smell of freshly cut grass makes me think of Friday night football in high school. The cutting of the grass reminds me of the August practice.”
