In this edition of the Google+ Office Hours Hangout, we talked about some of first steps to achieve security in the cloud. While security is a topic that deserves weeks of discussion, we wanted to give a quick overview on some of the basic practices. If you have any other questions about securing your solutions in the cloud, check out Wayne Walls’s security post as part of his Pillars of Cloudiness and feel free to give us a call at Rackspace and ask for a Launch Manager. Here are some of the highlights from last week’s Hangout – and you can scroll to the bottom to watch the Hangout in its entirety.
This past Google+ Hangout took place on the Third Thursday, meaning that the floor was open to general Q&A for anyone interested in the cloud. We fielded questions that were posted to Facebook, Twitter and Google+, in addition to talking about some of cloud trends and best practices. Here is a recap of some of the top points, and you can watch the Cloud Office Hours Hangout video in its entirety below.
My co-host Alan Bush was out for this Hangout as he is on paternity leave with a new baby! We’re all awaiting his return, but glad that he is getting to spend some time with his newly expanded family. This past week in the Google+ Office Hours Hangout, we turned our attention to DNS, the address book for the Internet. You can click any of the links in the below bullets to go to that point in the Hangout, or you can watch the entire Office Hours on DNS by clicking here or going to the bottom of the page.
Last week in our Office Hours Google+ Hangout, we answered the question, “What do I need to consider before I move to the cloud?” We examined this question with a few different types of people: those with physical devices only, those currently launching a new project and others. Potential cloud consumers should note that they don’t have to jump into the cloud all at once, but can rather move in an incremental manner. Here are some of the highlights from the Hangout, and you can see the complete video at the bottom on the post.
We flushed the format in this week’s Cloud Launch Team Office hours, opening up the floor for questions from all our viewers. This Hangout was such a hit that I am happy to introduce Third Thursday Open Q&A! Here are some of the highlights from last week’s Google+ Hangout.
We were excited to welcome Rackspace customer FLO Cycling to our San Antonio HQ last week and have the team join our weekly Google+ Hangout.
There are a lot of ways to have a discussion on monitoring – what is being monitored or how deep you want to go in the stack. If you are interested in those particular topics, you might want to check out this post on three things you should monitor, along with screencasts on how to implement the tools.
The Cloud Launch Team tackled different backup strategies and ways to protect your data in last week’s Google+ Hangout. If you’ve got more questions about data security and the cloud, be sure to catch the next Cloud Launch Team office hours in Google+ this Thursday at 1:00 p.m. CST.
Each Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. CST, our Cloud Launch Team offers office hours on our Google+ page to give people a chance to ask questions and learn more about the cloud. Last week, we focused on one of the hottest topics in the cloud: auto-scaling your configuration. To help with the conversation, we asked RightScale, a Cloud Tools partner that assists customers with organizing, configuring, automating and auto-scaling their configurations, to join us. Watch the entire video of the Hangout on YouTube or check out the highlights below that will link you to the spot in the video where the topic was discussed.
