Our new UK data centre was designed from the ground up to be green. From minimizing landfill and the impact on the environment during the upcoming construction, to using cutting edge technologies like “indirect outside air” cooling, to achieving BREEAM certification; the 130,000-square-foot Crawley, West Sussex-based data centre illustrates our mission to be good stewards of the environment and reinforces our focus on energy conservation.
Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers are available now in our Dallas region. That means you can leverage our new breed of Cloud Servers built specifically for exceptional levels of application performance in each of our three US regions – North Virginia (IAD), Chicago (ORD) and, as of today, Dallas (DFW).
Last week, we launched Rackspace Performance Cloud Servers, a new breed of cloud servers built to deliver exceptional levels of application performance, and made them available in our Northern Virginia (IAD) region. Today, we’re expanding the reach of Performance Cloud Servers to our Chicago (ORD) and London (LON) regions.
The Rackspace Cloud is now available in our new Hong Kong (HKG) region. This marks our third new region in 2013, including Sydney, which launched in June and Northern Virginia, which came online in August. The launch of Hong Kong brings our total global region count to six: Dallas, Chicago, Northern Virginia, London, Sydney and Hong Kong.
Just two months ago, we launched a new Sydney region and brought the Rackspace Hybrid Cloud “down under.” Today, our cloud is now available in a new Northern Virginia (IAD) region. This brings our total global region count to five: Dallas, Chicago, Northern Virginia, London and Sydney. We’re not slowing down and are actively building out another region, so stay tuned for an additional launch soon!
Hurricane Sandy is poised to pound the mid-Atlantic and Northeast today through Wednesday, with intense winds and torrential rains that could cause widespread power outages and floods, including in areas where Rackspace operates data centers. The teams at our Virginia facilities, and also at our headquarters in San Antonio, have been working round the clock to ensure that our customers’ data remains safe and that they continue to receive the Fanatical Support that they’ve come to expect, even during what many forecasters predict will be a “perfect storm.”
Rackspace customer and iconic beer maker Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) will take center stage this week in a webinar that highlights how it moved its applications from the data center to the Rackspace Cloud. For customers considering making the move to the cloud, this is a must-attend web event.
Rackspace now offers multiple region support for Cloud Files, a feature that allows our customers to select in which U.S. data center they would like to store content. Our Dallas and Chicago data centers are the first two data centers included in our multi region support. In other words, you can choose to store your data in our Chicago data center, Dallas data center, or in both regions. This new feature adds to our existing Cloud Servers capability to choose in which U.S. data center to build your Cloud Server.
Since the first Earth Day in 1970, the rise of information technology has meant progress but it has also raised many challenges. Even with green IT initiatives, global data center energy consumption is on the rise and IT departments are continuing to look for ways to become more efficient. The nature of cloud computing solves for many IT problems and in the infographic below, we have illustrated how cloud computing is making a difference. In addition, projects like Open Compute, are helping IT industries create more efficient data centers.
