[1]With the advent of cloud computing technology, game-changing companies are getting their ideas up and running in minutes. Entrepreneurs shouldn’t have to slow their momentum, spending time on managing servers. ShopIgniter is one company on the cloud with momentum to spare.

ShopIgniter[2] is an industry leader in social e-commerce solutions: they help companies grow, extend their reach, and generate revenue through social e-commerce. The crux of ShopIgniter is integrating e-commerce with a full-scale—and social—approach. That means a robust e-commerce platform[3] for company web sites, extending that transactional experience into social networks with the ShopIgniter Facebook Store, and a Social Promotion Engine[4] that optimizes social networks with social coupon programs, incentive and referral programs, social badging, and promotions such as private, group, or limited-time sales.

“As an early-stage software startup, we wanted to focus on the software, and leave the management and support of hosting infrastructure to a trusted hosting partner,” says Dan Warner, CTO of ShopIgniter. Their focus from the start has been on solving the problem of social e-commerce, and maintaining that focus meant finding a reliable and flexible hosting provider.

They also needed to be able to handle exponential growth and traffic—the sort that results from being featured in TechCrunch[5] and Inside Facebook[6]. They also had to be ready to handle the demands of shoppers on their clients’ sites during the busy holiday season. To meet their needs for a dependable hosting solution with 100% uptime, high scalability, and quick deployment, ShopIgniter turned to The Rackspace Cloud.

ShopIgniter currently uses Rackspace Cloud Sites, Servers and Files. They leverage Rackspace Cloud Sites[7] so their clients can have their own control panel to their ShopIgniter site, as well as their blog, email, or anything else they want to manage. Their clients get individual metrics on bandwidth, disk and CPU utilization through the Rackspace Cloud Sites control panel.

For support tasks where they need complete control of the servers, ShopIgniter uses Cloud Servers[8], including shell access, to perform behind-the-scenes tasks. As the last component of their cloud solution, Cloud Files[9] gives ShopIgniter a way to provide low-cost backup and media storage for their clients.

“A strong hosting partner is critical to delivering our customers a superior offering as well as being able to scale our business.  Rackspace has proven to be the partner with expertise, as well as top-notch customer service, that make us confident in our future success.”  –Dan Warner, CTO, ShopIgniter

With the confidence and flexibility that comes with hosting on The Rackspace Cloud, it looks like ShopIgniter and their clients are ready to celebrate a very happy holiday shopping season.
