During an interview promoting his robot battle film “Real Steal,” actor Hugh Jackman noted, “I would love to have a robot at home.” Mr. Jackman would feel right at home this week as Robot FIESTA invades San Antonio as part of the Alamo-FIRST Regional, March 27 through March 30 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, La Villita Historic Arts Village and HemisFair Park in downtown San Antonio.
Robot FIESTA takes place Thursday, March 29 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and features student-made Frisbee throwing robots competing against each other for robotic dominance. Robot FIESTA brings together teams from FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and is hosted by FRC Team 3997, the Screaming Chickens. In addition to Robot FIESTA and other robotics competitions for Kindergarten through High School students, Alamo- FIRST Regional will host a University Row on Friday, March 29 and a Technology Expo on Saturday, March 30.
The Alamo-FIRST Regional is dedicated to inspiring young people’s interest in science and technology. Through a host of programs, kids team with local engineers, professors and business people to solve real world engineering challenges. Students develop technical expertise, and gain self confidence, knowledge and skills to face life’s challenges. They discover they can achieve more than they had dreamed possible, in conjunction with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition.
“To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.”
-Dean Kamen, Founder, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)
All Alamo FIRST Regional events are free and open to the public.
