Rackspace Weekly Digest: Friday, September 21

1

From handing off OpenStack to the independent OpenStack Foundation to taking patent trolls on head-on, it’s been a big week here at Rackspace. Here are some of the highlights of the week, in case you missed them.

Patent Trolls Beware
Rackspace has once again been subjected to a patent lawsuit by a patent troll looking for a settlement. It’s a common and frustrating occurrence and a sign that more work is needed on a Congressional level to thwart these frivolous lawsuits by patent trolls. In a blog post, Rackspace General Counsel Alan Schoenbaum took on the patent trolls.

OpenStack Handed Off To Foundation
When Rackspace launched OpenStack with NASA more than two years ago, we knew it would eventually be handed over to an independent foundation to let it grow and flourish. This week, that handoff was made. In an open letter to the OpenStack community, Rackspace President Lew Moorman and Cloud Builders General Manager Jim Curry highlighted some key considerations for the community.

Insight From A Rackspace Founder
It’s no secret that Rackspace loves startups. And who better to get insight on why from Rackspace co-founder Dirk Elmendorf, who shared his thoughts on startups this week in the Rackspace Startup Program Insider.

Windows Server 2012 Support Is Here
The Rackspace Cloud now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2012. For our customers, Windows Server 2012 support means more powerful cloud and remote features; improvements for deploying and managing multiple systems; new Active Directory Doman Services features; and other new features and functions.
