Filed in Cloud Industry Insights by Andrew Hickey | October 19, 2012 7:00 am

From launching new SDKs to having dozens of Rackers head to San Diego for OpenStack Summit, it was another busy week. Here’s a recap of what went down this week.

Troy Toman Takes The OpenStack Summit Stage
Troy Toman, Rackspace Senior Director of Engineering for Cloud Compute, took the keynote stage at OpenStack Summit San Diego to showcase how Rackspace built the world’s largest open cloud[1]. In the presentation, Toman touched upon Rackspace’s journey to OpenStack, how Rackspace uses OpenStack today and how OpenStack needs to evolve in the future. You can see Troy’s full keynote here[2].

SDKs Launched
This week, Rackspace launched two software development kits (SDKs)[3] to make it easier for developers to write cloud applications. The first two SDKs are for Java and PHP. The Rackspace Cloud SDK for Java leverages the jclouds[4] open-source library and has full support for OpenStack Nova (Rackspace Cloud Servers[5]) and OpenStack Swift (Rackspace Cloud Files[6]); and the Rackspace Cloud SDK for PHP uses the Rackspace-developed php-opencloud[7] library, which supports Nova, Swift, Rackspace Cloud Networks (preview access) and Rackspace Cloud Databases[8]. You can learn more about the SDKs here: http://docs.rackspace.com/sdks/guide/content/intro.html[9].

Private Cloud Certification Program Unveiled
Rackspace also launched a new Private Cloud Certification[10] program through which our technology partners can have their products and services certified as being compatible with a Rackspace Private Cloud, powered by OpenStack.

Online Holiday Sales Boom Looms
The online holiday sales crunch is coming up quickly. We continued this week with tips from one of our e-commerce partners on identifying single points of failure[11]. We also showcased this nifty infographic[12] that highlights some of the results from our National Online Survey of E-Retailers.
