Rackspace Weekly Digest For August 20: Private Cloud Software, SharePoint Tuesday, More

Filed in Cloud Industry Insights by Andrew Hickey | August 20, 2012 2:00 pm

The open cloud revolution[1] continues here at Rackspace; there’s plenty more on the way. There’s a lot going on – not just in the open cloud, but throughout all of Rackspace. Here’s a quick recap of some of last week’s happenings, and a look at some things to come.

Run An OpenStack Private Cloud With Alamo

Last week, Rackspace launched Alamo, Rackspace’s Private Cloud Software[2] that lets users go from bare metal to an OpenStack-powered private cloud in less than an hour. The software is free and the private cloud can be hosted anywhere – in a customer’s data center or in ours. It’s truly the easiest way to get started with OpenStack. Download the Alamo software[3] and check it out.

SharePoint Tuesday Is Upon Us

It’s time for another SharePoint Tuesday[4], the hour-long virtual Q&A hosted by top Rackspace SharePoint MVPs. This Tuesday, SharePoint MVP Jennifer Mason is in the hot seat to answer your SharePoint questions. Spots are limited, so sign up now for Tuesday’s event[5] (August 21 at 2 p.m. CDT).

There’s An App (Service) For That

Rackspace Critical Applications Services is here[6] to offer our customers a holistic view across their application and infrastructure environments and to give them to tools to analyze and optimize performance to boost user experience. And we’ve extended Critical Application Services to the open cloud and now offer support for Adobe CQ[7] web content management customers.

OpenStack Contributors Speak

OpenStack, the open source cloud operating system that we founded, has ushered in a new era for cloud computing. And we’ve reached out directly to some of OpenStack’s largest contributors to find out how they contribute to OpenStack[8] and why. Most recently, we heard from SolidFire’s John Griffith[9] on how he contributes to OpenStack.
