The Space Cowboys from the Rackspace Startup Program [1]are on the road most of the time visiting with startups over the globe. Finding the best travel deals and booking them can be time consuming and frustrating. Are you frustrated with booking travel online? Introducing myTab[2], an online travel gift card where you can create trips for any occasion.  Save funds on your gift card, have friends and family give you cash on your gift card and then redeem the funds towards travel on myTab. It’s faster and easier than scrambling around trying to find the best travel deals.

In 2005, Heddi Cundle, the Big Cheese at myTab created the concept when she was exhausted from repeatedly checking travel sites for the best deal and found them showing the same price. She realized that an online gift card platform would address this problem. Heddi wanted to integrate with social media and ecommerce yet waited a few years for Facebook and PayPal to become mainstream, especially since myTab was a revolutionary concept. In 2010 feedback on myTab from the travel industry was phenomenal and the business was launched in June 2011.

“We got our start pretty quickly from the time of receiving incredible responses from the travel industry. So on a bootstrapping budget, we’re now underway and gently pivoting; primarily study abroad students and under 30’s currently.” Explains myTab’s Big Cheese, Heddi Cundle. “By targeting students, this then introduces their parents to myTab, organically, so we’re looking in good shape. It’s still an education to many users, since myTab has never been done before.”

“For the soft launching phase, we intentionally created a basic, no frills initial website design, while we assessed our audience response. Now we’ve upgraded our website which will be really interactive and fun!” says Cundle. “The 10 year vision is that myTab will be a groundbreaking force within ecommerce for select verticals. Currently we’re focusing on travel yet will expand to large electronics, large appliances, large sporting goods, and home décor. Our passion is that we’ve created a potentially phenomenal business with a win/win for both user and vertical industries.”

Travel without hassle with an online gift card. When the myTab concept is perfected in the travel world they will be moving into additional ecommerce verticals. Vertical expansion is a vision that all startups explore prior to launch. Within the Rackspace Startup Program[3] you can say our focus is divided into four verticals; the bootstrappers like myTab, accelerator programs, universities and venture capitalists. Your startup will lie within one of these verticals and we’ve got the rocket fuel to help you launch. The Space Cowboys[4] would like to talk with you about your startup soon!
