The demand for developers in the startup world is huge. Many startup companies within the Rackspace Startup Program ask the question, “How can we find a dev for our project?” Our immediate response to that question is a referral to Masterbranch, which brings software developers the next generation of online professional profiles by letting their code speak for them. It’s a true resume killer. Developers can also use DevScore, created by Team Masterbranch, which assigns a score based on what they code, and their reputation in the community in conjunction with who they work or have worked with.
Ignacio Andreu and Juan Luis Belmonte are the brains behind and the Co-Founders of Masterbranch which began in Barcelona, Spain. The duo was accepted into the Spanish incubator program SeedRocket in 2009. Beginning the incubator program with a project called Debugmodeon, the team made the decision to pivot during the program and created Masterbranch. The pivot was a solid business decision on the part of Andreu and Belmonte, as Masterbranch took one of the top three winning places in the SeedRocket program which consisted of over 100 participants. In the summer of 2011, Team Masterbranch left Barcelona to open an office in San Francisco.
“We are doing awesome stuff for hackers and having fun.” Explains Ignacio Andreu, self-proclaimed geek, CEO and Co-Founder of Masterbranch. “As developers, we spotted a need in the way career opportunities were presented, or not presented to us. We are developers, we don’t like to write and update a résumé; let’s face it, and we’re not good at showcasing our true achievements. So we decided to create Masterbranch to organize information about developers from all over the Internet, to disperse it and to help developers show off their awesomeness.”
Knowing your audience is a huge part of the startup success equation. Team Masterbranch took the time to reach out to developers, inquire about their needs, wants, desires and expectations when it came to marketing themselves. During this process, another vital piece of business intelligence was uncovered by Andreu. “Current feedback from hackers which are not looking for a job nor even interested in job opportunities, is that they like Masterbranch but they don’t really use it. Right now we’re working to change that.” Coders, here is an open invitation to test something new for Masterbranch at http://coolnewstuff.masterbranch.com/.
