Building and operating a backend is really hard and time consuming. The Rackspace Startup Program is proud to introduce you to Kinvey, the first Backend as a Service (BaaS) that makes it ridiculously easy for developers to setup and operate a Cloud backend for their mobile apps. At Kinvey, they are motivated to take something that is really difficult and are making it easy and elegant for their customers to operate at scale and provide value to all their end users, which could potentially be billions of people.
Kinvey began in Austin with a group of University of Texas grads including Sravish Sridhar, Founder & CEO, Morgan Bickle, CTO and Ryan Light, Creative & Marketing Director. After being accepted to the TechStars Boston Class of 2011 program, the entire team relocated from Texas to Massachusetts. With Kinvey, developers just model their Cloud backend needs and Team Kinvey auto-generates all the Application Programming Interfaces (API’s) and libraries they would need to access their data from any mobile, web or computing platform. Developers then grab their APIs and libraries, put it in their app code, and they’re ready to go.
“We built mobile apps for different ideas, ranging from creating a family information sync app for moms and dads, to apps for non-profits. We found that all our app ideas needed a backend, and building and operating a backend sucks. We decided to solve the backend problem,” explains Ryan Light. “Our service lets app developers spend 100% of their time on their mobile application. They don’t have to worry about connecting to various Cloud services, setting up servers for their backend, or maintaining and scaling them.”
In the world of startups, Kinvey is bringing true innovation to the mobile services sector. Apps built on any mobile operating system platform such as Blackberry, iOS, Android, Windows and HTML5 can use Kinvey. And Kinvey’s middleware and data layers are hosted across multiple Cloud service providers, including Rackspace, Amazon and Microsoft Azure. Kinvey should never experience downtime with those kinds of redundancies in place.
Looking into Kinvey’s future, Ryan goes on to say “We’re hiring a great team of engineers and marketers, a group in which almost all of us have built or marketed software to millions of people. All our energy is being focused on delivering a beautiful product that thousands of developers find useful. We allow them to get their app to market in a fraction of the time, for a fraction of the cost – they usually want to high five us, or buy us a beer… or both! We want to be the #1 Cloud Backend as a Service platform for mobile apps in the world.”
With Kinvey, startups can now spend 100% of their time on their mobile application and not sweat the small stuff. Much like what the Rackspace Startup Program offers to entrepreneurs within the program – don’t sweat the small stuff when it comes to world class Cloud Computing and Fanatical Support.
