Rackspace Startup Program Spotlight: GoMiles

Travel is a key priority for the Rackspace Startup Program. We are constantly on the go visiting with startups and key partners. Keeping track of and using frequent flyer miles to save the company in travel expenses can be confusing at times. The Space Cowboys would like to introduce you to GoMiles.com who helps travelers take control of their frequent flyer and loyalty points once and for all, and help them get things travelers really care about…like free travel. Michael Komarnitsky, CEO of GoMiles, was a management consultant at Booz & Company, traveling 45 weeks a year.  He had hundreds of thousands of points, but couldn’t figure out how to use them.  Michael needed a tool that would “untangle the spaghetti” of complexity and make it easy for him to manage these assets.  There wasn’t a solution in the market, so Michael resolved to build one. GoMiles started in the fall of 2009, and launched with a beta in the fall of 2010 after graduating from the TechStars Seattle accelerator program.

GoMiles is a company using Rackspace Managed Cloud Servers to run its Cloud environment. “Rackspace provides rock solid performance, killer support, and competitive pricing,” Komarnitsky said.  “We want to focus on our app, not the hosting, and Rackspace Managed Cloud Servers gave us the confidence to do that. Rackspace lets us focus on making our service better for our users, and not worry about the infrastructure.”

Frequent flyer miles and points are one of the largest types of financial assets, with an estimated market value of $150 billion. The focus of GoMiles is on the people who own the points, which includes almost anyone who travels. “We’re motivated by the opportunity to unlock that value for users,” explains Komarnitsky. “We are constantly refining and improving the product, responding to user requests for new features, and in conversations with partners about strategic opportunities to accelerate our reach. In the New Year, we want to be bigger and better. We see continual user growth and exciting product development pipeline, with those leading to continued revenue growth that we are investing into the business.
