July is a month of milestones: It welcomes the Independence Day of the good ole US of A, International Joke Day and the 57th anniversary of Disneyland. The 17th day of the month marks the celebration of Yellow Pig Day, which was started by a pair of mathematicians in the early 1960s who were charged with analyzing the properties of the number 17. The conjured up a mythical Yellow Pig that has 17 teeth, 17 toes, 17 eye lashes and so on that is honored that day.
In the words of Francis Thompson, “the summer looks out from her brazen tower, through the flashing bars of July.”
