StartupBus

Wednesday, March 5 to Thursday, March 6
For the third consecutive year, Rackspace is hijacking StartupBus in San Antonio on its way to SXSW!  This year, we’re getting more than a pit stop – we are the stop!  That’s right.  StartupBus’ new destination is Rackspace’s headquarters, The Castle! We will host all of the StartupBus startups in “The Center” on March 5 and March 6. Eight busses carrying roughly 250 entrepreneurs will arrive at Rackspace with fresh new business ideas they created while traveling cross-country on a bus. The idea is simple: participants board the busses as strangers, form teams, conceive ideas and build products in 72 hours, while traveling at 60 miles per hour. Events include working sessions, semi-finals (March 5), finals and a mini-conference (March 6) featuring Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble (@scobleizer), Michael Johnstone from Mark Cuban Companies, Rackspace CEO Graham Weston (@gweston) and others! We’ll be live streaming all week and expect the finals to reach over 130,000 people! Check out the StartupBus arrival and the finals.

Startup Crawl

Thursday, March 6
ObjectRocket is sponsoring a table at the Capital Factory for the Pre-SXSW Startup Crawl, Thursday, March 6 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Startup Crawl starts at the Capital Factory (701 Brazos St.) and shuttles take crawlers from startup to startup. Last year, more than 50 companies participated.

Startup Accelerator At Startup Village

Saturday, March 8 to Sunday, March 9
This year we’re sponsoring the Startup Village at SXSW, where we’ll host our Startup Accelerator. Throughout the week, we have a host of awesome activities planned. You can swing by and visit the Rackspace Startup Team at the booth and watch Robert Scoble conduct live interviews with startups, SXSW officials and key startup influencers (Saturday, March 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be startup pitch competitions and much, much more.

Slashathon

Wednesday, March 12
This year, Rackspace is sponsoring a new kind of hackathon – a Slashathon. Deriving its name from celebrity judge and Grammy-winning, iconic former Guns ‘N’ Roses axman Slash, Slashathon is a hackathon where developers create applications and technology within 12 hours. The event is music-oriented and offers devs a unique challenge to create solutions for artists to engage with their communities around an album release. Registration is free. Slashathon runs from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Capital Factory, 701 Brazos St. Judges include Slash; Bram Cohen, Chief Scientist and Founder of Bittorrent; and Ben Parr, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Dominate Fund. Many more special guests and mentors will be on-hand. Rackspace will provide hosting for the winning app and we’ll have senior developers present to teach new skills and mentor participants. The grand prize includes a Gibson guitar signed by Slash, $1,000 and the chance to have slash use the winning hack with the release of his next album.
